1. GAME RULES
 
A.   High School rules apply in all home games. When traveling, the teams will
       comply with house rules wherever they are playing. For league games, Fairfield County Basketball League rules will supersede all other rules.
 
B.    Playing Time Rules
1. For the 5th and 6th grade teams during the regular season and any additional non-league games, players must play a minimum of twelve (12) minutes. In tournaments and playoffs, all players must play a minimum of six (6) minutes per game.
2. For the  7th and 8th grade teams during the regular season and any additional non-league games, players must play a minimum of eight (8) minutes per game. In tournaments and playoffs, all players must play a minimum of four (4) minutes per game. 
3) Coaches have the authority to limit playing time (play less than the minimum) to discipline players for missing games/practices, having a poor attitude and for a “lack of hustle”, etc.
Procedure: The coach must first inform the VP of Travel of any plans to limit playing time to discuss the reasons to limit playing time. The coach must inform the parents of the player involved to explain why the playing time is being lessened
           C.   Team Selection
                        1. Teams will consist of ten (10) players. The Board reserves the right to allow
additional players on a case by case basis. If a coach wants to have more than 10 players on a team, he/she must bring the request to the VP of Travel and he and the independent evaluators will decide on the merits of having more than 10 players.  Players must attend all try outs for travel basketball, exceptions due to injury, etc. must be brought to the attention of the board for review..
                        2. No player may play out of their grade level.                    
3. A minimum of two (2) unbiased evaluators will attend each try-out session. These evaluators must be approved by the VP of Travel and the Board President. . The coach and the evaluators will choose the travel team. If the coach has a son or daughter trying out for the team, the evaluators will decide if that player makes the team.
4. All player evaluation sheets must be turned into the VP of Travel by the evaluators and coach after the players have been ranked and the top 10 players have been chosen. After reviewing the roster to ensure the top 10 ranked players are on the roster, the VP of Travel will turn over the roster to the head coach.
5. At the conclusion of the tryouts and after the review of the roster by the VP of travel, the head coach must inform the parents of all the players before telling the players.
                       6. At the completion of team selection an assistant coach may be named. (Note: no
                          parent other than the head coach is allowed in the gym for tryouts)
           D.   Player Conduct
                    1.   All players are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship at all times.
                    2.   Any player involved in a physical confrontation will be immediately removed
                          from the game by the coach and will be suspended from the next game.
                     3. All players and parents must sign the NYBA Code of Conduct.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
I.                               COACHES
 
A.    Selection of Coaches
         1.   Prospective coaches will fill out the Coach’s Questionnaire and submit them to   
               the VP Travel.
         2.   All the prospective coaches will be interviewed by the selection committee,
                consisting of: VP Travel, VP In-House and the President.
         3.   The selection committee will make recommendations to the Board which will
                then select the individual Travel Coaches.
 
B.    Training
         1.   Attendance at training clinics is mandatory
         2.   Coaches must sign and abide by the NYBA Code of Conduct
 
C.    Behavior
         1.   Coaches are expected to display exemplary behavior in their dealings with
               players, parents, referees and opposing coaches.
         2.   Unsportsmanlike behavior is not acceptable regardless of the situation and any
               complaint will be immediately addressed by the Board of Directors and
               appropriate action taken.
         3.   Coaches are responsible for the behavior of their players and spectators.
 
 D.    Responsibilities
         1.   Coaches are responsible for their players before, during and after practices and
               games. If a coach cannot be there to meet the players as they arrive, he/she
               should enlist a parent to do so. A coach must remain at the practice site until all
               players have been picked up by their parents.
         2.   Whenever schools are closed, for any reason, there will be no practices that
                night. Coaches must contact all their players.
         3.   Make sure that your team is at the gym ready to play at game time to ensure that
               the games can stay on schedule.
         4.   Publicity is the responsibility of the head coach. Coaches should make sure that
               all players get mentioned in the paper.
         5.   Coaches are to fill out an accident report for any injury. Forms should be turned
               in to the VP Travel within 24 hours.
